Julie Spencer-Rodgers
My research interests lie in the areas of social stigma, cultural psychology, social cognition, and quantitative psychology. People are both perceivers and targets of others' perceptions. Hence my research examines various psychological phenomena both from the perspective of the social perceiver (e.g., stereotyping and prejudice) and that of the target (e.g., coping with social stigma). The types of questions I seek to answer in my research include: Are there cultural differences in how lay people perceive themselves, the social groups to which they belong, and how they respond to the negative perceptions of others? What role does culture play in the construction of the self, and what implications does culture have for psychological well-being?

My professional honors include the "best paper of the year" in intercultural relations (2004 Otto Klineberg Intercultural and International Relations Award), Division 9 of APA (SPSSI).
